xmas wishlist

November 28th, 2011

Since a certain friend asked me to do this… :D

- CDs
The number one thing to get me for Christmas. I get lots of music from the libary, which piles on my hard drive, but my humble CD collection only consists of about 30 albums so far. Lots of great ones are missing (everything by The Kooks and Muse except for The Resistance, the two albums by Amy MacDonald, Radiohead’s In Rainbows, Fran Healy’s solo album… this could go on and on).

- books
I’ve got three books lying around at the moment and no time to read them, but books are always welcomed. Still haven’t read the new one by Nick Hornby and I’ve been meaning to get Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist and an english copy of PS I Love You for ages… I read anything as long as it’s light and funny and not too cheesy-romantic :D Oh, and english only, of course!

On to some more useless stuff …

- pillow cases! :D For some reason I only own the one pillow I sleep on. No throw pillows, cushions or the like. Anything that’s either white or blue is great, this one is particularly beautiful.

- pencils. There are awesome sets out there with like 12 different hardness grades. New pencils will hopefully get me motivated to finally finish the drawing I’ve had lying around for nearly two years now.

- brushes, this time not for drawing/painting but for make-up :D (mostly for blushes and compact powder) I know nothing about this stuff so even help only is appreciated.

- and: something like this :D A bag for the handbag. Sounds silly but since I’m always running late I think that this could actually be practical.

I miss it all, from the love to the lightning

Heartbreakingly beautiful.

My H&M package finally arrived yesterday =) I ordered the striped dress and the red knit-cardigan from that polyvore-set I made and also this dress. I’m still deciding whether I should keep that one but I absolutely love the other two items. The cardi is sooo comfy!

My mum tried to take pictures today :D As you can see, she isn’t that talented… This is the best one, the others were even more blurry.

there’s joy not far from here, I know there is

WOOHOOO I’ve got tickets to see Snow Patrol in Berlin next year! And I’ve got the new album Fallen Empires.

Fallen Empires

Listened to it once so far and I really like it :) And I’m sure it’s going get even better with every listen. I’ll write more on it (and Coldplay’s MX) in a few weeks :)

Got these lace-up boots two days ago :) I actually wanted some with a slightly taller heel but they were a bargain (15,99€), so I couldn’t leave them in the store :D

EMAs 2011

November 8th, 2011

I love award shows, even if it’s all the same every year, especially all these MTV Awards. VMAs, EMAs… So called “Popstars” getting prizes instead of people who can actually sing, write songs and play instruments, people like a certain actor who was famous in the 80s and whose name I won’t mention here being embarrassing, some girl with a microphone on the red carpet only caring about everyone’s outfits and for the rest it’s just an excuse to get drunk and do stupid things on telly. I love it =D

This years EMAs weren’t that exciting but I still enjoyed watching. Coldplay AND Snow Patrol performing? I’d never miss that.

Coldplay opened the show – the first thing you could hear were the chords of Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall and the first thing you could see was Chris’ bum =D Very nice. Wasn’t their best performance (Chris really needs to stop jumping around so much, his voice sounds so much better when he’s not) but it was still a great start.
As expected, Coldplay didn’t win anything last night. They lost Best Rock to Linkin Park and Best Live to Katy Perry. Haha, you just can’t take this serious.

Snow Patrol played a gig outside the City Hall and they cut in Called Out In The Dark as part of the show. Gary looked so excited to be playing in Belfast :D I think he knocked his microphone down at the end – and the crowd just kept on singing :) Beautiful.

On the show they also honoured Queen and payed tribute to Amy Winehouse, that was a nice touch. But the rest of the ceremony wasn’t that spectacular. Bring on the next awards!

Called Out In The Dark EP

November 4th, 2011

Only one week now until the new Snow Patrol album Fallen Empires is out! 11/11/11, what an awesome date :D

Everything so far sounds quite promising. They released an EP in August, featuring the first single Called Out In The Dark, album title track Fallen Empires and two other songs which were written for an Irish film called My Brothers.

It took me a few listens until I liked Fallen Empires, felt a bit like it was going nowhere at first. I’m Ready and My Brothers however where love at first listen, two beautiful acoustic songs with the always-perfect Gary lyrics.

You might think you’re cursed, but what’s so much worse, is the knowledge that you are
When you’re cursed with love that is buried so deep, that you can’t dig it out of you …

this is your life, this is your time

Best music video ever?! =D
I don’t even care for videos that much. But the one for Called Out In The Dark
by Snow Patrol is a masterpiece :D
See for yourself I you haven’t already:

I absolutely love it. Gary seemed to have so much fun, I love the story behind it and the choreography is just awesome. I want someone to make an instruction video. Girls on youtube have done that for Lady Gaga songs, so why not for this one as well :D
At least there’s four making of videos (which are hilarious. God I love Gary Lightbody).

But as much as I enjoy this video, I can’t seem to like the one for the second single, This Isn’t Everything You Are. And that’s the great thing about music videos, if you love them, you can watch them as often as you want to, and if you don’t, then you don’t have to watch them ever again.
