still alive (sort of)

January 31st, 2013

Yes, I’m still alive! Or functioning at least. Going through some really tough and sad times at the moment, so far I’m coping somehow..

I definitely haven’t abandoned this little thing here, so I promise to at least try to post regularly again. Please bear with me!

The best thing about this week are probably my new chelsea boots, so here’s a little sneak peek:

Blogger Adventskalender Tag 6 – Nikolaus!

December 6th, 2012

Step 1 – Get some music on!

Step 2 – Geschenkestress? Pff!

Vorlagen
Inspiration für Fortgeschrittene
Und natürlich die Star Wars Version :D

Step 4 – Fail Proof Cookies

Man braucht:
- 250 gr Mehl
- 50 gr Zucker
- 80 gr Butter
- 1 Ei
- 1 Päckchen Vanillezucker
- 1 Messerspitze Backpulver
- 1 Prise Salz

Step 5 – Einfach mal relaxen

Homemade Granola

October 15th, 2012

I’ve always loved all sorts of cereal and muesli – not only for breakfast but also as a quick snack during the day. To avoid all the sugar in granola from the supermarket, I’ve finally made my own at home :)

I kept it pretty basic since I like to eat it with fresh fruit and I’m not a big fan of seeds, but I’ll definitely try a coconut and chocolate version soon!

Ingredients:
oats
chopped hazelnuts
chopped almonds
cinnamon
honey
butter (or oil)
I’m sorry I don’t have any measures of how much you need – just take as much of each as you desire, haha!

Mix all the dry ingredients in a bowl. Mix the melted butter and honey in a second bowl, then pour over the oat mixture and stir until everything is covered in it. Spread it on a baking tray and bake for 10 to 15 minutes at about 180°C while stirring every few minutes. When your granola is golden brown and crunchy, let it cool before storing it in an airtight container.

Yum!

DIY: memo/photo board

September 16th, 2012

I never knew what do to with all these photos that have been laying around here. I didn’t want to frame them all and neither did I want to just glue them onto my wall. I really liked the idea of these photo boards though, so I made one for my room:

They’re really easy to make and for this one you don’t even need fabric or a staple gun :)

This is what you need:

 - a blank canvas
- cotton wool
- cardboard
- ribbon of some sort (I used simple raffia paper ribbon but there are a million cute designs out there – like these ones)
- tape
- paint (and some old newspaper and old clothes if you’re like me. I can’t do anything with paint without making a huuuge mess)

Step 1: Paint the canvas
I used a sponge to paint mine instead of that tiny brush, haha. That would have taken forever. I deliberately didn’t overmix the paint, so I got some lighter and some darker streaks onto the canvas.
Always stroke in the same direction and don’t forget to paint the edges!

Of course you can write something or paint a design, but you won’t see much of it later anyway.

Step 2: Stuff the back of the canvas

Once the paint is completely dry, turn the canvas around and stuff it with cotton wool.

Try to push it under the frame and in the corners as far as possible.

Step 3: Secure with cardboard

Cut out cardboard (I used two pieces since there’s a bar across the middle). Make sure it’s a few mm longer on each side so you can push it under the frame and it stays in place on its own. Your board is now tightly padded, so your photos can’t fall off.

Step 4: Add the ribbon

Tape one end of each ribbon onto the frame and span it across the canvas. Pull as tight as possible, then secure the other end with tape as well.

I decided to leave it at 5 in a diagonal order, you can obviously add more to create a “rhombus pattern” – or just span them wildly in no order at all.

Step 5: Hang your board and add pictures :)

Paralympics Closing Ceremony

September 10th, 2012

I saw the whole Paralympics Closing Ceremony yesterday – and wow, it definitely was a Coldplay-Party! The only thing that really disappointed me at the Olympics was the fact that not a single Coldplay song was played either during the opening or closing ceremonies. The latter even was titled “A Symphony of British Music”, how is this possible without Coldplay?! I really don’t get it.

So I was very happy when they finally appeared on my TV screen, and not for one song only but a whole 15-song set. I loved every second and I don’t think I can pick a favourite moment. Maybe when Mat Fraser, a disabled drummer joined them for God Put A Smile, or Chris sitting down next to the Paraorchestra for Strawberry Swing… and I thought I couldn’t love him even more :D

You could see how much fun the boys had, it was the perfect ending for London 2012. I’ll never forget this summer!

London 2012 – Inspire A Generation

August 22nd, 2012

It’s been over a week already since the closing ceremony… I absolutely LOVED the Olympics and I’m so so sad they’re over. I can only remember three Olympic Summer Games so far but these are definitely my favourite. So many wonderful people, moments, achievements, records and storys – it was a huge joy to watch. I’m especially happy for Team GB – I was secretly rooting more for them than for my own country, haha.
Thank you London, for these amazing 16 days!

I don’t think I can decide on a favourite moment.
Jessica Ennis, Mo Farah, Usain Bolt (love this picture)… they’re all heroes! I had tears in my eyes when Andy Murray finally beat Federer and I’m so happy for Tom Daley, who won bronze after everything he went through. Loved how everyone jumped in the pool :D The German equestrian eventing team did so great as well: Michael Jung won gold with his team and gold in the individual on his 30th birthday.
And I can’t not mention Michael Phelps and Chad Le Clos. How sweet was that moment when Michael reminded Chad to hold his medal up for the photos?! And Michael Phelps is now officially the greatest Olympian ever, with 18 gold medals.

London 2012 – Inspire A Generation? Well I’m inspired.

Oh and I LOVE this video, the US swim team lip synching to Call Me Maybe =D

picking out all the stars that we like…

August 12th, 2012

I just saw two shooting stars! It’s a beautiful night ♥
I love watching the stars and this song is the perfect soundtrack:

… I know it’s late but I can’t help but think here
That the day hasn’t shown all its cards
Now it’s out to the stars of the ocean
Let’s not retrace our steps to the car

Picking out all the stars that we like, between finger and thumb
You laugh as you pass me the night, as if it’s too fragile to hold
And I hold it so close to my chest, with your hands in my hands
You say this is just how we’ll rest until land turns to sand

Four years go…

July 26th, 2012

“This is a song I wrote just as I turned 20, and I panicked ’cause I was like “shit man, I’m not gonna be a teenager anymore”"
hahaha
Shit maaaaan!

Well, Happy Birthday to me. If my teenage years have an anthem, it’s this song. Every line is so true.
I’m off to the lake now!

“… when you’re 16.

Four years go
You’re foreign before you know
You’re now of age
And you’re thrown in a different cage
And you’re faced with another blank page
And I know I don’t need to be told …”

An Invisalign update

June 22nd, 2012

It’s been five months and four days since I started my Invisalign treatment – and my teeth look so great already! Here are some pictures of my progress:

You can only see a slight difference from the front …

… but a huge one from the side!

I’m so so happy. I’ll never have a Hollywood smile, my teeth are way too weirdly shaped and yellow (yay for Photoshop) and my lips too thin, but at least they’ll be straight soon :)
