News from Tired Pony!

July 9th, 2013

Oooohh I’m SO excited for this! Gary Lightbody got his supergroup together again to record another Tired Pony album, called The Ghost Of The Mountain.

www.tiredpony.com

The first single All Things All At Once had its radio premiere yesterday. Really beautiful, the perfect song for a quiet, relaxed summer night. Sounds like it’s gonna be the album of the summer for me, even though it’ll be hard to top the first one, The Place We Ran From – it’s unreal how much I love that album, might even be in my top 3 records of all time!
So yeah, I can’t really wait anymore. The cover is so beautiful as well, exactly how I imagined it. Bring it on!!

Rock am Ring 2013 – Highlights Part 2

June 24th, 2013

As I wrote in the first part, I discovered some new bands and artists at this years Rock am Ring festival:

Jake Bugg

I already knew him before since he toured with Snow Patrol and Noel Gallagher last year but I’d yet to hear more than a few songs, so fortunately his full set was shown in the livestream. So much talent for a 19 year old! Didn’t know he could play those guitar solos.

Imagine Dragons

So I’ll admit I’ve been living under a rock these last few months… I’ve never heard of these guys until I saw them as the first band in this years livestream. But I loved them instantly – catchy songs, lyrics I can relate to, lots of energy and a singer who seemed completely blown away at the response his band got from the crowd :D cute. I also love all the percussion elements, nice to see (and hear) them all drumming together.

BΔSTILLE

…I know, it’s getting embarrassing now.. I’ve read their name before ’cause they opened for Muse on some of their shows, but never heard any songs until their set at Rock am Ring. I was surprised how many people there welcomed them with signs and t-shirts! Told you I’ve been missing a lot of stuff, but better late than never, right?
My first thought was “Man, he totally looks like Ted Mosby” :D But it didn’t take long until they had me captivated. I love Dans voice, the groove of their songs, the electronic feel to them.. and again, lots of percussion by all band members, awesome.

Rock am Ring 2013 – Highlights Part 1

June 16th, 2013

Whoop whoop I’m back! With music!

For the 7th (wtf!) year now I followed the Rock am Ring festival via livestreams and TV. Saw some amazing sets by my favourite bands and discovered some new ones, so here’s part one of my highlights.

Stereophonics
They definitely didn’t get the slot they deserved, playing the Alternastage at 6 pm – it should’ve either been the Centerstage around that time or way later in the dark on the Alternastage. But they obviously sounded great as always, apart from the hits I really liked “Catacomb” from the new album (can’t find it on youtube :( )

Biffy Clyro

The crowd loved Biffy and I think Biffy loved the crowd :D Seems like they had a real connection – how funny was Simon’s “Ziehst du mich durch den Kakao?” ? :D (awesome German skills!) They’re the perfect festival band.

Phoenix

They only showed a few songs on TV when Phoenix played the festival in 2009, so it was great to see their full set this year :) Perfect atmosphere during the sunset! (Also, how cute is it when he counts in the songs in French? :D)

The Killers

They headlined the festival in 2009, this year they “only” headlined the Alternastage, but I think I liked this set even more. Brandon and the whole band have always come across quite reserved and serious to me, and here he was smiling so much the entire time, I really loved that. That they’re a brilliant live band is no secret and this concert reminded me that I really need to see them someday.

waiting for that feeling

March 24th, 2013

Oh man, I never thought we’d see this day. Noel Gallagher and Damon Albarn performing together. I know they buried their grudge some time ago but seeing them together on stage (singing my favourite Blur song and even sharing the mic!!!) makes it all perfect. I have tears in my eyes and a huge grin on my face.

Travis greenscreen fun

March 1st, 2013

So y’all have most likely seen THIS:

Stupid but so very funny.

Right now there’s a lot going on in Travisland, since they’re FINALLY bringing out a new album soon. And last night us fans had some fun on Facebook with a greenscreen pic from their new video – someone photoshopped a T Rex into the background and suddenly there was E.T., a meerkat, the Beatles… and the goat. Which might’ve been my doing. Hahahaha I just couldn’t resist. Fran seemed to think it was funny as well… so yeah. Bring on the new album!

Paralympics Closing Ceremony

September 10th, 2012

I saw the whole Paralympics Closing Ceremony yesterday – and wow, it definitely was a Coldplay-Party! The only thing that really disappointed me at the Olympics was the fact that not a single Coldplay song was played either during the opening or closing ceremonies. The latter even was titled “A Symphony of British Music”, how is this possible without Coldplay?! I really don’t get it.

So I was very happy when they finally appeared on my TV screen, and not for one song only but a whole 15-song set. I loved every second and I don’t think I can pick a favourite moment. Maybe when Mat Fraser, a disabled drummer joined them for God Put A Smile, or Chris sitting down next to the Paraorchestra for Strawberry Swing… and I thought I couldn’t love him even more :D

You could see how much fun the boys had, it was the perfect ending for London 2012. I’ll never forget this summer!

picking out all the stars that we like…

August 12th, 2012

I just saw two shooting stars! It’s a beautiful night ♥
I love watching the stars and this song is the perfect soundtrack:

… I know it’s late but I can’t help but think here
That the day hasn’t shown all its cards
Now it’s out to the stars of the ocean
Let’s not retrace our steps to the car

Picking out all the stars that we like, between finger and thumb
You laugh as you pass me the night, as if it’s too fragile to hold
And I hold it so close to my chest, with your hands in my hands
You say this is just how we’ll rest until land turns to sand

Four years go…

July 26th, 2012

“This is a song I wrote just as I turned 20, and I panicked ’cause I was like “shit man, I’m not gonna be a teenager anymore”"
hahaha
Shit maaaaan!

Well, Happy Birthday to me. If my teenage years have an anthem, it’s this song. Every line is so true.
I’m off to the lake now!

“… when you’re 16.

Four years go
You’re foreign before you know
You’re now of age
And you’re thrown in a different cage
And you’re faced with another blank page
And I know I don’t need to be told …”

Survival by Muse – Official Song of the London 2012 Olympic Games

July 9th, 2012

This is just epic. I admit,  I giggled when I first heard the song, it’s so ridiculous and over the top, but I love it, especially with this video. I always loved watching the Olympic Games (maybe ’cause I was born a day after the opening ceremony of the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona, heh) and since they’re in London this time I’m extra excited. Let the Games begin!

New Muse album in September

June 6th, 2012

Wheeeee some news from Muse! This trailer was uploaded a few hours ago. Not sure if I like the title, and these 30 seconds of dubstep sound both weird and awesome to me (if that makes any sense). I wouldn’t be surprised if this is a joke and they’re laughing their arses off right now =D But if any rock band can pull it off it would be Muse, wouldn’t it? So either way, I’m freaking excited. Roll on September…
